LAKE MILTON, Ohio – As a construction contractor, Donny Loveless is used to building things. Now, he and his wife, Lori, will be working hard to build a following for their brand new brewery, Lake Milton Brewing at 17762 Mahoning Ave. in Lake Milton.
The brewery officially opens Weds., Oct. 14. The Flight Crew enjoyed the brewery’s soft opening Weds., Oct. 7.
Donny and Lori live just a few minutes from the brewery. Donny had been home brewing for a while. He had visions of starting his own brewery, and as luck would have it, he recently found the perfect building.
“Everything just kind of fell together,” he said.
Eight beers were on tap the evening we visited. We found KC Power Porter, Cole’s Kolsch and Trep’s Hef to be our favorites.
Donny also is collaborating with Northeast Ohio Craft Brewery News editor Rob Tittel on a beer to be launched later this fall. Tittel, who also lives minutes from the brewery, is handling social media for the brewery.
Donny and his friends handled much of the construction at the brewery, as well as all the on-premises brewing. In addition to a variety of craft beers, the brewery has a kitchen. It’s been a transition from home brewing on a small system to brewing up to 100 gallons at a time. But the beers keep getting better.
Donny and Lori plan to continue with the construction company once the brewery is up and running.
The evening we visited also featured a private gathering for Matt Skillman, winner of the “First Pour” contest, which collected more than $800 for the Lake Milton Flower Fund.
“It’s been a long time coming and a lot of work,” said Donny. “But we’re excited to open.”
