YOUNGSTOWN – Hopewell Theatre will present the clever comedy-thriller “Deathtrap” for five performances, beginning Feb. 28.
The play, written by Ira Levin, focuses on a successful writer of Broadway thrillers who is struggling to overcome a dry spell.
A possible break in his fortunes occurs when he receives a script from one of his students that he considers to be a potential Broadway smash hit. He puts in motion a plan to produce the play,leading to plot twists and shocking surprises.
Hopewell’s production, directed by Nick Mulichak and Regina Rees, features veteran actor Terry Shears in the principal role of playwright Sidney Bruhl, with John Monroe as his student, Brenda Zyvith as his wife, Terri Wilkes as psychic Helga Ten Dorp, and Bill Rees as lawyer Porter Milgram.
The play features adult themes, gunshots and some physical violence.
Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28 and 29, and March 6 and 7; and 2 p.m. March 8.
Tickets are $15 ($12 for students and senior citizens) and can be purchased in advance at hopewelltheatre.org or by phone at 330 746 5455.
