The Update | Westminster College Unveils Performance Series

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College Celebrity Series will return to in-person performance for its 2021-22 season, which will begin in December with a holiday show by vocal quartet The Midtown Men.

Tickets are on sale now for all shows. For information or to order tickets, contact Georgene Gib in the Celebrity Series box office by calling 724 946 7354 or go to Westminster.edu/celebrity.

All shows begin at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium on the Westminster campus.
Here is the schedule:

  • The Midtown Men, Dec. 4: This vocal group, which comprises the original Broadway cast of “Jersey Boys,” will sing Yuletide classics as well as the signature renditions of the greatest rock and roll hits of the 1960s. This show is not affiliated with “Jersey Boys.”
  • Straight No Chaser, March 26: The a capella group will present its “Back in The High Life” tour.
  • “Cruising Steady: The Music & Friendship of Aretha Franklin and Smokey Robinson,” May 5: Broadway veterans Patrice Covington and Jesse Nager will perform hits such as “Respect,” “I Second That Emotion,” “Chain of Fools,” “Ooh Baby Baby” and “Natural Woman.”
  • “Lucie Arnaz: “I Got the Job! — Songs from My Musical Past,” May 21: Arnaz celebrates a lifetime on stage with anecdotes and memories about her co-stars and musical collaborators. She’ll sing iconic songs and hidden treasures from some of Broadway’s greatest shows.
  • Neil Berg’s 50 Years of Rock and Roll, June 18: The composer will take the audience on an electrifying journey from the birth of rock and roll in the 1940s through the glory years of the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s, up until MTV in the early ’80s. The show features a cast of stars from Broadway’s greatest rock musicals.

Rude Mechanicals to Present ‘Open’

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Rude Mechanicals Theatre Co. will present the one-woman play “Open” at Calvin Center for the Arts, 755 Mahoning Ave., on Nov. 5, 6, 12 and 13.

Starring Jenna Cintavey and directed by J. Rian Davis, the play by Crystal Skillman asks the audience to believe in the power of magic in the face of intolerance, violence and hate.

Tickets are $10. All performances begin at 8 p.m. The performance runs approximately 75 minutes and will be presented without intermission. Masks will be required for all audience members.

Music at Noon Concert for November

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Dana School of Music has announced the Music at Noon concerts for November. Concerts begin at 12:15 at Beecher Court in the Butler Institute of American Art, and are free and open to the public.

Masks are required for entrance to the museum. There is no concert on Nov. 24 because classes at Youngstown State University are not scheduled that day.

Nov. 17: Saxophone Studio Recital

Dark on Park Art Show Returns

WARREN, Ohio – The Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County’s annual Dark in the Park art show will open Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Art on Park gallery, 180 N. Park Ave.

Nearly 30 regional artists, working in a variety of mediums and styles, will display works that deal in subjects of the dark, morbid, surreal, bizarre and beautifully strange.

Opening reception will be from 6 p.m. to midnight. Admission is free.

All proceeds from sale of the art goes to the artists. The curator of the show is David Wheeler.

Kravitz to Bring Back Honor Roll Sandwiches

YOUNGSTOWN — In celebration of  National Sandwich Day, Kravitz Deli will be reviving sandwiches from its Sandwich Honor Roll Nov. 1-5.

“We created the Honor Roll concept as a way to recognize all the people and institutions who not only made an impact on our Valley but also who were fans of our deli,” explains owner Jack Kravitz. “This is our way of remembering and saying thanks.”

In addition to specialty sandwiches, Kravitz will also feature discounted pricing with all regular deli sandwiches.
