Italian Food Trail Relaunches After Shutdowns

WARREN, Ohio – With restrictions lifted and safety measures in place at all participating restaurants, the Trumbull County Tourism Bureau has relaunched the Italian Food Trail and the 2020 passport program.

The program kicked off this year March 9, a week before restaurants were ordered to close by Gov. Mike DeWine and Dr. Amy Acton, director of the Ohio Department of Health.

The 50 restaurants – including four new participants –  on the Italian Food Trail are locally owned and operated. Seventeen take part in the passport program. When customers purchase items from the restaurant, they will receive a stamp in their passport. Those with all 17 stamps can submit their book to Trumbull County Tourism and will be entered to win one of 17 $50 gift cards. The first 100 people to collect nine stamps and return their passport will receive an Italian Food Trail baseball hat.

Relaunching in June still gives people plenty of time to collect the stamps and complete the Passport,” said Beth Carmichael, executive director of the Trumbull County Tourism Bureau, in a statement. “his is going to be a different summer, but there’s still plenty to do! We’re encouraging our residents and their visiting family and friends to be inspired, get creative and experience our local Italian heritage through food.”

Passports are free and are available at ItalianFoodTrail.com or the Trumbull County Tourism office.

Participating in the 2020 passport program are Buena Vista Café, Café 422, Country Porch Winery, Enzo’s Restaurant, Giorgio’s Ristorante, Greene Eagle Winery, Jimmy’s Italian Specialties, Just Pizzelles, Leo’s Ristorante, Margherita’s Grille, Niki’z Pub, Red Plum Pizza & Pasta, Salvatore’s Italian Grill, Station Square Restaurant, Sunrise Inn, Vasilio’s Restaurant & Pizzeria, and Wedgewood Fernando’s Pizza.
